So I was in a very good Mexican restaurant couple weeks ago and bit into something a little too energetically. I actually broke a tooth that had a really old filling into two separate pieces. Fear not, because I have signed up for ObamaCare and I had the forethought to get dental insurance this time.
This unusually pleasant experience began when I first signed up for ObamaCare back in Feb or March. I was having a bit of trouble getting the website to take some of my info. There was a very pleasant lady (Ruth I think) who got on the phone and walked me through the process. Everything went smoothly afterwards, and I received my email saying that I was now covered.
So fast forward to the biting incident and I call a local dentist who says “you have to get a dentist who takes this particular insurance). Blue Cross, but it’s HMO. “OK, Thanks” I say.
So I get on the internet and look up dentist who take my insurance. Hmmmm. None in my immediate area. None in Dallas either. Still, fear not, I will just expand the search area a bit. None within 100 miles of me??? Well mister computer, where is there a dentist that would take my insurance. There is one somewhere southwest of San Antonio……Well that’s a bit far.
So I call and ask if there is some sort of mistake on the website. Of course there is. Mr Hill your insurance has been cancelled. “Nope”. I set it up for auto pay so I don’t have to bother with bills. I set up everything I can with autopay so I don’t have to try and remember these things. “It shows that it is cancelled Mr Hill”. For what reason I ask? “Well, it doesn’t give a reason” she says. ” I don’t understand, the notations usually give a reason”. I explain to her it doesn’t give a reason because it was set up for auto pay and I haven’t used it or changed anything. She says she will call back with a reason, which she never does and I have to call back three more times. Finally they say it was non payment. Wouldn’t matter anyway because the procedures would not be covered.
Apparently there are a bunch of loopeholes (I found this out after some research ) that are used to not pay for much of anything (read nothing really). Well no worries. It’s only my health, why should I expect my insurance to pay for health stuff because health problems never happen anyway, right?
So I found an excellent dentist at Sweet Tooth Dental Loft, and Camelia, who is the owner and now my family dentist removed the offensive remainder of a molar and will be replacing it with an implant. I have to say that it was the most pleasant tooth extraction that I have ever experienced. She even has a slick little hidden needle side swipe move to keep needle sensitive people from freaking out when they see it. With the Periodontist bill and insert it’s only gonna cost me about $5000.00.
HOLD ON!!!!! $5000.00?????……. ObamaCare SUCKS!
After writing this and realizing that this was actually not a good experience for me I will use it for something positive.
Everyone, check your insurance and make sure it is actually worth paying for, and is indeed up to date.
